MEET THE TEAM
BRUNIA
Wade Sander
Cold Mountain Vineyards is a family run enterprise based in the unique W.O Sondagskloof. The farm is nestled on the slopes of the Koue Berg mountain ranges and is blessed with vast tracts of pristine fynbos. Organically farmed, their Brunia brand focuses on crafting single vineyard wines that express their cool climate origin.
CHARLA HAASBROEK WINES
Charla Bosman
A very small side project, but with big dreams! Studies in winemaking, but most definitely very invested in the vineyards. Producing small batches of wine, from unique areas in the Cape South coast. The wines are a true reflection of place and they believe in making sure the vines are well looked after, which directly translates into the wines.
DEEP ROOTED WINES
Mark Stephens
Mark is passionate about the wellness aspect of wine; wine that is good for both the drinker and the environment. His wines are low in sulphur and are made with minimal chemical interference in the cellar.
LELIE VAN SARON
Natasha Williams
Natasha followed her vision to produce her own wine. In 2017, she founded her brand, Lelie van Saron, which translates as Lily of Saron, and through it strives to make elegant, honest wines. Her small production offers crafted wines made with minimal intervention to reflect a pure expression of the terroir and grape variety.
MAANSCHIJN
Douglas Mylrea & Paul Hoogwerf
Maanschijn crafts low intervention wines from vineyards in the Walker Bay wine district. Their Herbarium Collection is a fine wine exploration of place; their Brunch Club is a fun wine exploration of style. Together, Doug and Paul seek to capture the essence of this cooler, maritime locale through their limited bottlings.
OFF THE RECORD
Bobby Wallace
Growing up in the Elgin region, Bobby Wallace continues the family legacy of making premium quality, individually unique, small-batch wines. Sourcing grapes from some of the most unique sites for his chosen wines, his winemaking style shows both a sense of place and varietal characteristic.
SAURWEIN WINES
Jessica Saurwein
Guided by the natural balance of the grapes, Jessica Saurwein produces three thrilling wines from unique vineyard sites. It is her aim to achieve energy and harmony through natural soil farming, “hands-off” winemaking and natural fermentation. Saurwein Wines is based near Stanford, where Jessica and her family have started a polyculture farming venture.
THAMNUS WINES
P.J. Geyer
Thamnus Wines is a remote terroir in the Overberg, 250m above sea level and 20km from the Walker Bay. Warmer summers and colder winters, combined with old Cape soils, produces particularly expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With a history of mixed farming, today this marginal land raises sheep alongside the vineyards, an olive grove and wheat fields.
VAN NIEKERK VINTNERS
Albert & Anmar van Niekerk
VNV was born in the heart of the beautiful Overberg in 2019. Grapes are hand selected from various vineyard blocks, where the focus is more on heritage with an emphasis on quality instead of quantity. The vinification process is unadorned, with as little as possible intervention, allowing the wine to determine its own course.
WEATHER REPORT WINE
Christopher Keet
An exploration of Cape landscapes through the lens of Cabernet franc. They make wine to appreciate the struggle that the vines endure. A little bit of struggle builds character. Pursuit of the natural and a nod to their heritage - this is what guides their winemaking. The weather, however, will always have the final say. As it should.
